How to run a traceroute

When troubleshooting potential networking issues, Codero techs may request a traceroute and source IP from you to help with troubleshooting. Here is how to provide them with that information.

If your server or websites are running slower than normal and you believe it to be a bandwidth or networking issue please submit a ticket in your account at serverportal.com so we can begin investigating it right away.

If you provide the following details, it will help us idenitify the issue quick whether it be a issue with your server, a switch, a router, or 3rd party ISP connections between your location and the datacenter.

  1. Please provide a traceroute to your server. (for info on how to do a traceroute see below)
  2. The source IP you are connecting from. (you can find your IP address at whatismyip.com)
  3. What ports or applications are you seeing the slowness on? ( http port 80, ftp port 21, etc.)
  4. Timestamps of when this occured so we can check against logs.
