3 IT Stats That Show Why Hosting Services are High Priority

We’ve been digging deep into The 2017 State of IT from Spiceworks, which reflects the attitudes and opinions of nearly 900 IT buyers as well as data from within its IT-based social network. Here are three stats that point towards the rising importance of hosting services for most businesses.

2% — the expected decrease in IT spending for 2017, as projected by IT buyers in North America. In other words, IT spending will be essentially flat.

The Spiceworks survey goes on to outline the top five drivers of new IT purchases — end of life, growth/additional need, upgrades/refresh cycles, project need, and end-user needs. But if budgets are tight, why purchase new hardware that will only age and drain your IT resources? And if your business only has short-term or cyclical needs, buying makes even less sense. Why sink money into infrastructure you only need for a little while?

This is where dedicated hosting services come in. It makes a lot more business sense to lease server space, offloading the financial and IT staff burden of keeping hardware and software current. Especially if you only have project-based or seasonal needs — lease what you need, when you need it, and pull back when you don’t.

⅔ — the majority of North American IT pros who said they don’t expect staffing changes this year. What’s more, less than 30% expect to increase the size of their teams.

As business needs grow, so does the need for IT resources. But if you’re not planning to hire anybody, how do you expect to handle new challenges and opportunities? This is particularly key for small businesses where the “IT staff” may consist of only one person — and that one person may have other roles within the company in addition to taking care of IT.

Dedicated hosting with managed services can ease the burden on IT. Because all of the monitoring and maintenance is included in the hosting agreement, your “IT people” can focus on other, more mission-critical needs.

46% — the percentage of IT pros who said cloud-based or hosting services would be very or extremely important to their business practices in the future.

The pace of business is only accelerating. If organizations plan to spend less on hardware and software and don’t expect to hire new IT, it only makes sense that they’d turn to hosting services to help them keep up. No business can afford to have its website or email go down for any length of time, or lose access to their vital applications and data.
