Django Girls – Codero Supporting Women in Tech

Django GirlsA grassroots organization, Kansas City Women in Technology (KCWiT) is on an ongoing mission to grow the number of women in technology careers in their city.

About Django Girls

To serve this mission, KCWiT is now working with Django Girls, a non-profit organization and community that empowers and helps women to organize free, one-day programming workshops by providing tools, resources and support. A volunteer-run organization, Django Girls has hundreds of people contributing to bring more amazing women into the world of technology learning to code. The organization is making technology more approachable by creating simpler tools and resources designed with empathy in order to get more women into coding. During each of their events, 30 to 60 women build their first web application using HTML, CSS, Python and, of course, Django. Django is a high-level Python web framework that encourages rapid development and clean, pragmatic design. Built by experienced developers, it takes care of much of the hassle of Web development, so you can focus on writing your app without needing to reinvent the wheel.

Through the upcoming Django Girls workshop, KCWiT will introduce women to coding and technology from June 24th to June 26th, 2016, with a goal to give attendees the opportunity to learn how to program, helping to curate positive first experiences with technology.

Supporting Women in Tech

At Codero, we’re always searching for opportunities to support the tech community, especially women’s presence in and contribution to the industry. When the organizers of KCWiT contacted Codero about their sponsorship of a Django Girls workshop in Kansas City, we jumped at the opportunity. Chip Warden, DevOps Engineer at Codero, volunteered to be a mentor of the group because we strongly believe the technology industry needs to be more representative of the population at large. A cutting-edge programming language, Django operates exceptionally well with Codero’s Cloud and Dedicated Servers.

“We’re getting excited for our workshop next weekend! Thanks Codero Hosting for their Silver Sponsorship & helping us teach 75+ women how to code!” – Django Girls
