While advances in technology have made it easy to have conversations with our customers, we traveled and visited customers face-to-face in the past few months. These discussions led us to discover the things that we do well, and the things that still need work. We’re huge fans of constructive criticism – and view it as a statement of trust and commitment from our customers. As a result, it allows us to work towards an end product that allows everyone to win – so look forward to new and exciting things to keep coming from Codero over the next few months!

One enhancement we’ve rolled out is a refreshed website… with some new elements added to the homepage and throughout the site, we hope that you find the site easier to navigate and information regarding our dedicated servers and managed hosting services more accessible. In today’s world, a company’s website is often one of the first places people go to gather facts and opinions about your company, as well as your brand. If the right elements aren’t there, often people will move on, and move you out of their consideration set. While it’s important to keep the content of your site refreshed and engaging, there comes a time when you realize that the format in which the content is presented must be updated – enter the website refresh stage.

The latest and greatest version of www.codero.com is just the first of many improvements to our online experience and we’d love to hear your thoughts on the site. Seriously…

Free State Social #FSSocial.

We came. We checked-in. We saw. We tweeted. Most importantly, we learned. And then we blogged about it.

We had the great opportunity to attend Free State Social, which was hopefully the first annual of many Free State Social events to come. While there have been a vast number of recaps, write-ups, etc. following the event (and you can find most of them in the recap section of the Free State Social website), below is a small collection of the things that impacted us most.

Having a social media department is like having a phone department. 100% agreed. Regardless of how a company decides to utilize social media, it’s a responsibility that can fall on the entire company – not just one person/department. This gives a more honest, personable view of your company/brand to the world. Not the filtered, often diluted view.
“Would you say that at a party?” – Things to think about before you post/comment in social media. Too often we scream/broadcast information out in social media. No one wants to hear how great we think we are. Have conversations and make connections to prove it.

In social media – you are the brand. I think too many people forget this. If the content you provide via social media is stiff or stodgy, people will view your brand as such. If all you ever talk about is yourself (as a company/brand) people will get turned off and view you as arrogant. By being nice, personable and most importantly – being yourself, people begin to identify with you and stop viewing you as that looming corporate entity.

Think like those you’re trying to reach. Too often corporations utilize social media and come off sounding, well, too corporate. With social media being an easy way to reach out and engage with people, companies should think and speak like those that they’re trying to reach.

Always ask why. When contemplating a social media tactic, companies should stop before jumping in and ask why. Don’t create a Facebook page or a Twitter account just to have one – you must realize how your customers will interact with it, and set aside time to really interact back with them. A passive social media strategy is a bad strategy because if you’re out there, people expect an immediate response, as too often in social media “real-time is not fast enough.”

Go Green in April with Codero!

In support of both Earth Day and Arbor Day, we have launched a new program, Codero Plant-a-Tree, allowing customers to have a tree planted in their honor by simply adding $1 to their online orders. Donations values are $1, $5, $10, $15 or $20 and will be planted by a forestry organization at the end of the month to aid in reforestation efforts. As a sign of our commitment at Codero to greening our operations, we joined the USEPA’s Green Power Partnership in 2009, by purchasing renewable energy sourced from wind farms to reduce our carbon footprint. The purchase of Green-e certified RECs (renewable energy credits) allows small- to mid-sized businesses the ability to power their websites and online stores using green energy with this eco-friendly hosting solution.

Codero Recognized with SAS 70 Type I Certification.

We are excited to announce that Codero has completed its first SAS 70 review, and is now SAS 70 Type I certified. Following a detailed assessment of internal controls, the first review was completed for Type I Certification in February, 2010, and a second review to receive SAS 70 Type II certification is scheduled for completion in Q3 of 2010.

Codero Donates Computers to School in Need.

As part of a continuing effort to better the communities in which we work and live in, Codero recently donated 100 computers from our San Diego data center to the San Luis Rey Elementary School, located in Oceanside, California. With an estimated value of $20,000, Codero is pleased to assist the Oceanside Unified School District by means of this technology donation.
